Ola and Steve got married last December in Ballinacurra, a beautiful manor house in Ireland’s county Cork. The couple planned the celebration from their home in the UK with lots of help from friends and family. We are so in love with Ola’s two glamorous wedding dresses and fabulous jewellery, as well as all the sweet details of this wedding, all beautifully captured by Tomasz Kornas.
HOW THEY MET
“We met two years ago on Eharmony.com- we had our first date in Gordon’s Wine Bar in Strand where we shared a bottle of pink champagne. We got engaged in November 2014, at our home in Hackney, East London. Steve cooked a three course meal for Ola as a special treat – at the end of the meal I gave her a gift – when she unwrapped it she found a little woodcut print portrait of me, with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ written beneath. When she turned around I was on one knee with the antique ruby ring.
PLANNING
We got on really well as a team, and made most decisions really easily. In the months leading up to the big day, we certainly felt the burden of arranging the three days of festivities, with so many international guests. Three hotels, six coach journeys, eight meals to organise, two priests, three bands and one dance… which is only the tip of the iceberg! It was all worth it to share such a special occasion with our loved ones. Also when the wedding day dawned there were floods all around Kinsale, but not only did everyone make it safely, the sun came out for the ceremony- on New Year’s Eve!
THE DETAILS
We didn’t have an official theme as such, but we went for a jazz-age type look with the stationery and bridal party’s clothing choices. We had so much help for the day: Steve’s mother Eleanor made the amazing four tier art-deco inspired cake, Ola’s sister Kasia, the bridesmaid, designed the wedding booklets and all wedding meal stationery in the same theme. Steve’s sister in law Roisin was the musical director and one of the musicians in the church together with Ola’s friend Natalia singing, and Steve’s friend Paul playing the low whistle.
We are so glad we chose Tomasz for our wedding day. He was super friendly, clear and polite during preparations, listened carefully to our preferences and took the most beautiful, sensitive, and touching photographs. He is very discreet and we almost didn’t realise he was there on the day. Tomasz got along with guests of all ages and took some really special candid shots when no one was looking.
ADVICE & FAVOURITE MOMENTS
Don’t run through the ideal ‘perfect wedding day’ in your head too often- just relax and go with the flow as you can’t control every little thing. For Steve, seeing Ola walk up the aisle with her Dad was the best moment, and for Ola, it was the Polish part of Steve’s speech when he confessed his love to her.”
