We are always keeping an eye out for new wedding trends here at Blog For Bride HQ and one that has caught our attention of late is the crop top wedding dress. In fact, you might recall that my favourite dress from Bridal Market week in October was one by Theia White, a two piece winter gown featuring a long sleeve woollen crop top and if Mike and I were having a winter wedding, it’s one I’d be seriously considering.
My love for the Theia dress was a bit of a surprise to me as I am not one to ever flash too much skin, and the thought of my midriff on show on my wedding day should have sent a shiver up my spine. But it didn’t. On a recent dress shopping trip to the White Gallery in Down (highly recommended), I had an opportunity to try on a beautiful two piece by Elizabeth Stuart (shown second last below) and I absolutely adored being in it. I laughed with Rachel, the owner that my mother and aunt would likely have a stroke the moment she pulled back the curtain but to my disbelief, they thought it was so classy and elegant and a real contender!
Sadly, I’ve since had to rule it out because we are getting married in Italy and given that there are strict rules on covering up shoulders and knees, I’m pretty sure they will have something to say about a tummy on show! So because I can’t wear one, I really wanted to round up some of my favourite crop top looks to share with you today.
If you think you might be brave enough to walk down the aisle in a beautiful two piece, there are a few things we do think you should consider before buying.
1 If you are having a religious ceremony in a chapel, check with the church that your dream dress won’t be an issue. This is especially true for Italy in particular!
2 If you are baring your stomach, then keep it classy with a high neck or long sleeve. Too much skin is never a good look. Also, a high waisted skirt hiding your belly button is a much safer option!
3 If you like the idea but are worried about baring all, then look for dresses that have a sheer or lace alternative as the mid section.
Would you dare to bare?
