Finding Lost Marbles ✈ Marbled Wedding Decor Ideas

Good morning everyone! Half way through the week and that means it’s time to find out what’s on our wishlist today. I’m pretty confident when I say that just about everyone will have experienced the art of paper marbling at some stage during their childhood and inspired by our watercolour inspiration a few weeks back and some marble cake baking with Rachel Allen on TV last Wednesday night (em,  just to clarify, I didn’t bake anything – I drank tea and munched on a Cadbury Caramello while I watched her slaving away in the kitchen) well, we wanted to take a look at how we could bring it back into our lives and perfect this primary school skill but in a more grown up way. I’ve a feeling this simple technique will start featuring in a lot more weddings next year and we wanted to show you how marbled wedding decor can actually look really sophisticated and slick by pairing the right colours and textures.

Just incase you can’t jog your memory, paper marbling is a “method of aqueous surface design” where you basically add ink or paints to water in a shallow trey or other vessel. Chemicals are used to allow the ink or paint to float and paper is then placed carefully on top of the patterned water. No two designs are the same which means you will always come up with something unique and interesting.  I love the cake above that we found over on Grey Likes Weddings by Elegantly Iced – although it isn’t marbled using ink, the texture and the lines of the icing make it look like a marble statue. We have paired this technique with shades of pinks and coral and more masculine tones of charcoal greys and think it looks really modern but quite romantic. Bring the theme out in your invitations and other paper goods and leave small favor bags containing marbles on your guests’ tables – it will definitely transport them back to their childhoods in no time.
