It’s been ages since we did a flower post, over two months actually so this is one that is long over due and we really wanted an excuse to showcase some pretty peony wedding bouquets! Despite the title, we are in fact continuing on our America theme today. Did you know that peonies are the state flower of Indiana? Lucky Indiana we say! There is even a peony nicknamed “America”. These big beauties are no stranger to the wedding bouquet due to their generous petal count and are equally beautiful before and after they blossom.
Colours
Peonies come in most colours except blue but you might want to check with your florist the colours they stock or check out the local market to see what they actually sell if you are planning to do your own while abroad. Most popular are the white, cream, yellow, oranges, pinks and reds.
Availability
Yeah.. here is the ouch part! Peonies can be imported all year around but are much harder to get and more even more expensive if your wedding is not between late Spring and early Summer when they are in season. Again, it’s a good idea to check with your florist.
Tips
Before arranging your peonies into a bouquet – cut about an inch and a half from the stem at an angel and place in water with some flower preservative for a few hours. If you have a few days before your wedding, make sure you change the water and add fresh flower food daily to keep them at their best. Peonies go with so many flowers and because of their size, start your arrangement with them first!
