NYC Centerpiece Inspiration – Voyage New York Weddings Guest Blog

When planning a destination wedding, it’s always important to let your chosen destination inspire your style choices. Keeping the setting in mind works on both the creative and practical levels. For instance, it’s not exactly convenient to wear a ball gown at the beach!

For an urban destination wedding, the possibilities are endless. But if you are planning to have your celebration in an iconic city such as Paris, London or New York, there is a fine line between inspiration and cliche.

It’s the attention to detail that really makes this NYC wedding unique. Held at the Green Building in Brooklyn, floral designer Rebecca Shepherd created tributes to NYC in a surprising way. Each centerpiece celebrates a New York landmark, but not obvious ones like the Empire State or Statue of Liberty. Instead the tables were inspired by Ebbets Field (the home of the former Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team), classic taxis, parking meters, brownstones, water towers and the classic NYC diner, all little touches of Old New York.

Other thoughtful details like I<3 BK (Brooklyn) and old-school taxi cookies as well as a cake reminiscent of the NYC subway system brought the whole look together. Very New York, but never obviously so…
